Welcome to the New Haven Mayor's Office
Dear Friends:

I hope you had a great 4th of July weekend with your family and friends! Although the holiday is over, there are various activities and events happening in the City during the upcoming week which are not to be missed. Look forward to this Saturday, July 11 as the three week Music on the Green concert series kicks off with our own New Haven Symphony Orchestra at 6 pm. Sister Hazel will perform the following Saturday, July 18 and Jeffrey Osborne will close the series on July 25.

Youth@Work Summer Program Begins

Today, approximately 1,200 New Haven youths started working as part of the Youth@Work program. This program gives New Haven youths the opportunity to make money this summer while learning professionalism, financial literacy and work experience.

Mayor’s Night In

On Tuesday, July 7 at 5 p.m., I will be hosting this month’s Mayor’s Night In at City Hall. This is an opportunity for residents to meet with me to discuss questions, concerns, and suggestions for the city. I encourage you to stop by and let me hear your thoughts.

Blues, Berries, & Jam

From July 8th to August 26th, New Haven has just the thing to get you through those summer Wednesdays: a farmer’s market and blues concert series. City Seed Farmer’s Market will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the live blues music will begin at noon and run until 2 p.m. on the Green.

Exact Change

For the second consecutive year, the Arts Council of Greater New Haven, in partnership with CT Transit, presents Exact Change, a series of live performances on five bus routes in New Haven from 11am-3pm. Performances, which include improv-comedy, music and dance, poetry, and theater, are free with CT Transit’s regular $1.25 fare. All bus routes terminate at the New Haven Green. Participating artists include Deborah Elmore, Lansana Touré and Mabinty Keira, New Haven Theater Company, The Viola Question, and Urban Concept.

Open Farm Day at Common Ground

Visit the animals, enjoy a tasting tour in the gardens led by our youth farm hosts, bring a picnic lunch, pick up a trail map and go for a hike, and enjoy the farm in the summertime at Common Ground! This event begins July 11 and ends August 8. Common Ground is located at 358 Springside Ave.

Traveling Exhibition—Sustainable Choices

Learn how to rethink "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!" This hands-on interactive exhibition will help you and your family make informed decisions about living more sustainably. Located at the Yale Peabody Museum on weekdays and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm, and Sundays from noon to 5pm.

“Consider the Quinnipiac” Photography Exhibit

I invite everyone to attend “Consider the Quinnipiac,” a photography exhibit featuring the 38 mile Quinnipiac River and exploring the beauty that defines it and the threat that endangers it. The exhibit opening will begin July 8 from 5:30-8:30 pm at the New Haven City Hall atrium. The exhibit will be up for one month before relocating up the watershed. For more information click here.

Green Tip

Drink coffee or tea? Bring your own reusable mug to your favorite coffee shop instead of using a new disposable cup every day.
